Door Rattle and Window Switch

By peterm95018, 27 April, 2023

I was tracking down some rattles I was hearing in spring 2023. I'd been reading threads in Rennlist about door panel warping (mine isn't severe), loose rear window fitting, etc. Then the switch broke 'cause its old (old guy reference).

When the switch breaks you can source the switch from Suncoast Parts for $199.95 or head to eBay to find what you can. I took the latter route and bought the part for $34.89 figuring I'd buy OEM if this failed. The new switch has been in the car for nearly a year. I did have to superglue a tiny piece of fake chrome that slid off, but it's held so far.

In preparing to do take the door panel off, I watched the video from Pedro's Garage. They specialise in door warp repairs. I proceed through the screw removal and began observing some odd things.

Firstly, only two of the four screws in the drivers side door were OEM. The other two were mis-matched. Things that make you go hmmm. Better check the passenger side door. In that case, we had the proper screws but they were a little loose. A little tightening and things felt solid. So, I ordered some OEM screws to replace the odd ones.

Getting the switch block out of the door sill involves pushing from the bottom and releasing 4 clips. Thin plastic trim tool got me to the first “click” and from there I was able to work around the switch. Then install the new switch block from the top and get the clips to click into place. That took longer and requires some patience and fiddling.
